Wayland
High School has been well studied
over the years:
School
Facilities Study
From
1987-1988, the School Facilities
Study was conducted to assess the
demographics and physical state of
WHS buildings. The report to the
School Committee identified the need
to renovate and update the
buildings. The result of this study
was a
renovation project from
1990-1992 which included new roofs,
carpeting, some new windows, new
HVAC, some asbestos removal and
reconfigured classrooms. This
renovation was anticipated to last
10-15 years.
High
School Feasibility Study Committee (HSFSC)
From
June-November 2002, the High School
Feasibility Study was conducted with
architects Dore & Whittier. The
study concluded that a $40-$50
million project would be required
and recommended proceeding with a
$2.5 million design project. In
February 2003, shortly after the
completion of the study, the
Massachusetts School Building
Authority (MSBA) announced a
moratorium on funding for new school
projects. A proposed vote to proceed
with a design phase failed in April,
2003.
High
School Study Committee (HSSC)
In June
2003, the HSSC was formed. The HSSC
projected a WHS enrollment of 1,000
students by 2007, and confirmed a
$30-$40 million project. A
conceptual design project was
proposed which was passed at Town
Meeting in November, 2003.
