HSBC Update

The High School Building Committee (HSBC) met on Jan. 21 and reports progress in many areas.  The Project Funding Agreement has been received by the Town and approved by the Wayland School Committee.  This agreement with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) confirms a grant of 40% up to $25 million.  Execution of the PFA allows the Town to begin the pay as you go process for the remaining phases of the building project.

The HSBC appointed a Selection Committee to proceed with Construction Manager at Risk procurement.  The members of the Selection Committee are Joy Buhler, Joe Lewin, Steve Millington, John Moynihan, David Saindon, and Eric Sheffels.  Twelve firms have been pre-qualified.

A joint meeting of the Planning Board, Board of Health, and Conservation Commission is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28 at 8:15 pm in the Large Hearing Room in the Town Building to review the Wayland High School Project.  Topics to be covered include schematic design, site drainage, zoning/parking/site lighting, site utilization during construction, WWTP (Waste Water Treatment Plant), and project schedule.  This is an opportunity to have an informal discussion with key permitting boards before official submittal of the Notice of Intent (NOI) in February.

Neighbors who live near Wayland High School gathered on Saturday, Jan. 9 with the project architect, owners project manager, WWTP designer, and members of the HSBC to walk the WHS site and understand the proposed location of the WWTP.  A visit to an operating WWTP in Wilmington will be scheduled for neighbors and other interested citizens soon.

Members of the Wayland Energy Initiatives Advisory Committee attended the HSBC meeting and expressed their interest in the WHS project and their help as a resource.  Steve Millington of HMFH Architects is planning a review of energy issues in February and will invite the advisory committee to participate.

The next regular meeting of the HSBC is scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the Commons conference room at Wayland High School.  The community is invited to all HSBC meetings.  Information is available on the HSBC website at www.waylandschoolcommittee.org/whs/hsbc/index.htm and at the Wayland Public Library.
