This newsletter contains information on:

1. Town Election on Tuesday, April 24  (please vote in favor of the Debt Exclusion)
2. Annual Town Meeting beginning SUNDAY, April 29  (please vote in favor of Articles 5 and 6)

1. Town Election on Tuesday, April 24
The Town Election features a Debt Exclusion vote with school implications (concise summary below) plus several important contested races including Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, and Board of Road Commissioners. All three of these races will have an impact on the proposed Town Center project, whose revenue the Finance Committee cites as key to Wayland's near-term financial stability.

The Wayland eNews web site features an overview of the election.
  • Please vote in favor of the Debt Exclusion, which includes the following school items
    • $250k for minimal safety and accessibility needs at the High School
    • $735k to replace the Happy Hollow School's deteriorating windows
    • $100k for other school repairs
    • $300k to allow the High School Building Committee to continue the work needed to apply to the state for project reimbursement
      • $75k to be spent initially
      • Additional $225k to be spent only when state invites us to proceed
2. Annual Town Meeting beginning SUNDAY, April 29
Annual Town Meeting begins on a Sunday this year, at 1pm in the High School Field House. Take advantage of Kids Day Out (pre-register by 4/25), leave your kids in great hands for fun activities, and have a "date afternoon" at Town Meeting! Or, bring them along for the civics lesson.
  • Please vote in favor of the following Town Meeting articles
    • Article 5: FY2008 Omnibus Budget
      • School operating budget appropriation: $28,722,212 (up 1.1% over last year)
      • School capital budget: $200k plus Debt Exclusion items listed above
    • Article 6: High School contract planning and design service funds from Debt Exclusion: $300k
Additional information on the Debt Exclusion vote, the contested elections, and the Annual Town Meeting is available as follows.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 23rd at 7:30pm in the School Committee meeting room on the second floor of the Town Building (full meeting schedule).
