Lea Anderson, coordinator of the High School Study Committee (HSSC), will provide a briefing on proposed warrants for school modernization and expansion to be voted on at a November 20 Special Town Meeting. She will also review HSSC’s recently issued report on recommendations for addressing the projected 12 percent increase in Wayland High School enrollment by September 2006 and accommodating the advances in science, technology and building regulations that have occurred since the school was opened in 1960. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session where Wayland residents are invited to voice their opinions on the proposed warrants and expansion project. All forums held at Wayland High School will include a tour.

The Wayland School Committee voted at its September 22 meeting to submit three warrant articles for consideration at a Special Town Meeting now scheduled for November 20, 2003. The first article requests an appropriation of $355,000 to fund a conceptual design and implementation plan for the expansion and modernization of the school. The second requests authorization for the School Committee to establish an 11-member High School Building Committee. The third article requests authorization for the Board of Selectmen to petition the State Legislature to extend the debt payment period for a high school project from 20 to 30 years to amortize the impact on Wayland taxpayers over a longer period.
